Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Understanding Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a fast, effective form of therapy that helps people heal from difficult experiences. Backed by science, ART uses eye movements and guided imagery to change the way your brain stores painful memories — without needing to talk about every detail.
Whether you’re coping with stress, trauma, anxiety, or grief, ART offers a path toward emotional healing and relief, often in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.
How ART Works in the Brain
Our brains are wired to heal — but sometimes, after trauma or stress, memories get "stuck" in a way that causes ongoing distress. These stuck memories can show up as flashbacks, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or even physical symptoms.
ART uses eye movements similar to those your brain uses during REM sleep (the stage when we dream). This helps your brain reprocess difficult memories and store them in a way that no longer feels overwhelming or distressing.
A key part of ART is something called "memory reconsolidation" — where the emotional impact of a memory is changed, even though the facts of what happened stay the same. You might remember the event, but the fear, shame, or sadness connected to it is greatly reduced — or even gone.
ART for Adults
What ART Can Help With:
ART is highly effective for a range of emotional and mental health issues, including:
-
Trauma and PTSD: Helps reduce painful reactions and emotional distress from past experiences.
-
Grief and Loss: Eases the emotional weight of losing someone or facing major life changes.
-
Anxiety and Panic: Offers a calming, body-based approach to soothe anxiety symptoms.
-
Phobias and OCD: Helps reduce intense fears or repetitive thoughts and behaviors.
-
Performance Anxiety: Supports better focus and confidence in work, sports, or creative performance.
What to Expect in a Session
ART sessions are typically shorter than traditional therapy and often bring results quickly — sometimes within just 1 to 5 sessions. During a session, your therapist will guide you through:
-
Gentle eye movements to help your brain process stuck memories
-
Visualization exercises where you “rewrite” how your brain holds onto the memory
-
A calm, supportive process that doesn’t require you to talk about your trauma in detail
Many people find this approach less emotionally taxing, while still being deeply effective.
Sessions can be done in person or through telehealth, depending on your preference.
Why Choose ART?
-
Fast results — often in just a few sessions
-
No need to retell painful stories
-
Science-backed and brain-based
-
Gentle, focused, and effective
ART helps you move forward by freeing your mind and body from emotional pain. It gives your brain the tools it needs to let go of what’s no longer serving you — and to move toward peace, clarity, and strength.
